Verse 3.28 Insight and Gita Editions

Verse 3.28 of the Bhagavad Gita states:

तत्त्ववित्तु महाबाहो गुणकर्मविभागयो: | गुणा गुणेषु वर्तन्त इति मत्वा न सज्जते || 28||

This translates to, "The person who knows the truth, O mighty-armed Arjun, does not become entangled in the dualities of attributes and actions, because he has realized that the modes of nature operate according to their own nature." This indicates that true knowledge leads to understanding the non-doership of the soul in actions, freeing one from attachment to the results.

Where to Reference the Verse

You can refer to the Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 3, Verse 28 for the original text and its commentary on the nature of actions and the self.

Recommended Editions of the Gita

  1. For general study, the editions translated by Swami Prabhupada or Eknath Easwaran are commonly used and well-respected.

  2. For followers of the Vishishtadvaita school, it is advisable to refer to editions that align with the philosophical interpretations of Acharya Ramanuja, such as the ones by Sri Ramanuja's followers or specifically annotated versions by Vishishtadvaita scholars.
