Who and What is Purusha?
In the context of the Bhagavad Gita, Purusha can be understood as the eternal consciousness or the universal spirit. It represents the true self that transcends the physical body and mind.
Purusha is often contrasted with Prakriti, which refers to the material nature.
The teachings suggest that realizing the nature of Purusha can lead to liberation (moksha) from the cycle of birth and death.
In Chapter 15, Verse 7, it states:
“The living entities in this material world are My eternal fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind.”
This verse emphasizes the connection between Purusha (the individual soul) and the Supreme Soul, indicating that understanding this relationship is vital for spiritual growth.
